Chapter 54: The sea fight

Jael paused. "Dile?"

The commotion was enough to wake the rest and they blinked into the light created by Litha. "What is going on?" She demanded, frowning at Jael as if he was the one that wake her up.

Jael narrowed his eyes at the beastman. "What were you doing?"

Dile looked sheepish. "I was trying to wake you up, but I don\'t know how so I wanted to do it the beastmen style." He shrugged.

Others looked from Jael to Dile, scowling. He pretended he didn\'t see them. "How\'s the style?"

Dile flexed his claws, they were as long as his fingers and flashed like steel. Jael shuddered, glad that Hermit woke him up before Dile did. "Just call my name to wake me next time. So why are you waking us?"

He didn\'t have to say it because Tim saw it and was already shouting. "We are under attack! They are coming for us!"

They were. At least up to forty ships are hot on their heels, churning the surface of the sea like a school of flesh-eating fish. Jael shivered slightly, either from cold or something else. "Why are they after us?"

Temur cursed under his breath. "It doesn\'t matter why they are after us. We can\'t fight that many Awakeners by ourselves. We have to get the hell out of here. We have a better ship, isn\'t that right captain?"

The ghost captain wandered close, and he nodded. "We will leave them to eat our dust!"

He clapped, and the green warship glowed slightly, then it jerked forward, speeding up faster and widening the distance between them and the smaller ships.

But almost immediately they saw them again, speeding towards them like a shadow tied to its owner. How did they get here so fast? The Captain narrowed his eyes and sped faster, and they lost them again, but almost immediately, the smaller ships were on their tail again.

It goes on like this for the better of the midnight. It was as if a giant hand was scooping the smaller ships closer to them each time. And they seem to get faster every time it happens.

For the eighth time, their ship got a boost and sped up, and Jael breathed easily again when the small ships shrunk in the distance; he shook his head. "So they are forming together to take down the bigger ships? Smart."

"And dangerous," Cele said, the small fireball above her head illuminating her. "We can\'t take them on."

Litha frowned; she was getting tired of all this; all she wanted was sleep. "We can but it\'ll just be difficult and depends on the captain."

"You want us to fight them from a distance?" Jael asked.

Litha shook her head. "Something like that, but still, this is the sea, and there\'s a lot of space, and we are faster than them. If the captain knows his sea then we can come up with something."

Temur turned to the Captain. "Do you know the sea?"

"Like the back of my hand."

Kaidos has taken some control over the \'alliance\' and made himself the unofficial leader. His ship stood at the front, the rest forming around him.

"When is the next boost?" He called into empty air but he knew the spirit was listening. Since they began chasing the big ship the spirit has aided them by making their ships appear some short distance from the big one.

Now, the big one has left them in the dust once again and they would never catch up unless the spirit intervened. Their ships shimmered and then they sped forward, almost as if the distance was cut away.

Kaidos\'s eyes shone with anticipation because each time the spirit helped them, they got closer to their target, and this time, they should be close enough to start firing attacks.

"Get ready!" His eyes glinted red and were quickly mirrored by those on his ships as if they were all connected. He grinned; the fight earlier on the beach had made him acquire some slaves.

But when their ships finally stopped blurring forward, Kaidos froze as he saw nothing but blue rolling waters in front of him. He frowned. "Where\'s the big ship?"

He turned and saw the confusion from the other ships. Why did they suddenly disappear? "What\'s going on." He said, glaring up at the sky.

A faint gigging teased his ears and Kaidos blinked. He had almost forgotten that the spirit was not his ally but was supporting them for its motive. Discover worlds on m-v le-mpyr

His eyes narrowed. "What are you planning you little....."

A bullet stone suddenly tore through the air with a high whine, crushing two ships and making the last to overturn. Like a crow of doom, a green big ship rammed into the middle of the smaller ships, crushing one beneath its metal body.

Everything paused for a second.

Then chaos erupted. Power flared and lit up the night as the Awakeners on the smaller ships rose quickly, and began to unleash their powers. The air was suddenly filled with different colors and sounds as different energy arced out.

A thick shield flickered to life around the bigger ships and Kaidos smirked as he watched. "That won\'t protect...!!"

The attacks all slammed into the shield with the sound of lightning, and the shield cracked like a mirror, collapsing inward, but that was it. All the attacks were spent on the shield.

It was then, during that split seconds between when the Awakeners used their powers and paused to see the outcome of what they did and when the shield collapsed.

It was then that the bigger ship attacked. Their Awakeners attacked.
