Chapter 260: A Goal?
[Domination]\'s stamina and power works kind of like dopamine: when the user is fighting, their supply is almost endless with stamina, able to keep going and going no matter what.
But after all of that… tiredness comes back, and all they want to do is sleep.
Stark left the elevator once he was at the third floor and reached for his door, his fingers fumbling for the keycard in his [Spatial Inventory].
But suddenly…
~SLAM~
The door next to his swung open, and there stood Lana, her eyes wide with surprise.
"Oh," he squinted his eyes.
"STARK!" and before he could even react, she launched herself at him, nearly knocking him off balance.
"Whoa, careful there," he sighed, steadying himself against the wall.
"You\'re back! I was worried sick!"
"…"
"Did you really defeat two apostles? I s-saw the footage and everything!!"
Stark nodded, a faint and tired grin tugging at his lips.
"That\'s insane! I knew you could do it!"
"Thanks, but I\'m beat. Need to crash."
"Right, of course! Get some rest!"
Stark nodded again, his body urging him toward the comfort of sleep.
He finally pulled out the keycard, slid it into the lock, and opened the door.
He jumped into his bed immediately, then fell asleep the microsecond his head touched his pillow, not even bothering to close the door behind.
"…" Lana sighed before smiling, her eyes sparkling as she approached the bed, crouching to watch Stark\'s sleeping face, "Cute," she almost wanted to touch his cheek with a single one of her fingers, but she stopped herself, thinking he would probably not like it.
And so, she patted his head then went away, closing the door behind him, "Thank you for the help," she bowed as he had also helped her pass the first trial after all.
…
"…" Stark already knew where he was, no need to even bother acting like he was confused.
He was currently in a casino, and of course, his two doppelgängers [Alchemist] and [Domination] were also there, seemingly playing blackjack around a round table.
"Yo," Domination smiled, "Do that a seat if you want to play!"
"…" Stark didn\'t want to, but he still took one of three available seats, filling in the spots of the table.
After all… he wanted to talk with them both.
"So what now?" Stark asked, two cards magically appearing in front of him.
"What do you mean," Domination quickly checked his own before smiling.
"I mean… I keep thinking over and over, but what is my… no… our goal?"
"Hm…" Alchemist put his white aura hand against his chin, "Hit by the way," he asked relating to the blackjack game, and another card appeared in his deck.
"I think I already have a few ideas," Stark continued, but…
"Oh, but we already know what\'s our goal, though," Domination lost his smile as he decided to [Hit] as well.
"And that is…?"
"I mean, isn\'t it just beating all the apostles, then meeting with that \'Godless Demon\' punk and beating his ass?" Alchemist answered.
"Huh?"
"I mean, the entirety of the things until now were all somehow related to us killing the apostles, and even the ApostleDex said that killing them all would mean meeting the Godless Demon," Domination finished.
"I… Oh," Stark realized it.
His goal was not to get all the classes, have a happy life, or whatever bullshit most people wanted.
His goal…was to get rid of the \'Godless Demon\', no matter what.
Maybe that was the task Rher wanted to give all the transmigrators? And why it was so hard to pass that judgement of his…?
"In my humble opinion, I think the \'Godless Demon\' could be considered as the \'Controller of all monsters\', which is why we need to get rid of him," Domination shrugged, "Stand."
"If that is so, then why isn\'t anybody trying to kill him? Surely there are people way stronger than I am to do that?"
"Well… maybe nobody knows how to do it?" Alchemist answered, "After all, even for us, the only way is by the ApostleDex."
"Oh…"
This meant… that Stark was truly the only one.
Was he really invited in this world after his death just to get rid of some monster.
"I think he is the closest thing you could consider to be a god in this world," Domination finished his argument while looking at Stark, "But it is possible to win, much like all the other times, if we manage to defeat all the apostles, then the path will definitely be opened for us."
And so that meant…
[10 apostles left]
"We need to get rid of them all," Domination and Alchemist said at the same time as they dropped their cards on the table, Domination going over 21, and Alchemist losing to Stark who got 20.
"Ok," Stark nodded.
"Well, then go, we\'ve been playing this game for two weeks after all," Domination smiled.
"Two weeks..? Oh, I get it," it meant that Stark had been so tired that he was sleeping for two weeks in the real world, "Well then… goodbye, see you next time."
"Cya, host."
The casino disappeared, the doppelgängers, and Stark was back in the black void again.
He closed his eyes.
And then…
~FWISH~
He lost consciousness.
…
~DING~
Stark opened his eyes, the first thing he saw was the ceiling of his room.
"Great…" he perfectly remembered the discussion he had with his doppelgangers, and it actually did make him a bit nervous.
Everyone knew about the [Godless Demon] and how powerful he was, yet no one had ever fought let alone seen him, all they knew was that he controlled the apostles, who in turn controlled millions of monsters.
"Time to get off… I have lots of time now that the rift is complete," he mumbled as he tried to get up.
But strangely enough… his bed felt more cramped than usual.
"…" he looked down to see what the hell was happening.
And… of course it was cramped, since Lana was sleeping right beside.
He didn\'t know how this ended up like that, and to be honest he didn\'t even want the context of it all since it would probably be bullshit anyway.
"…Alright," he got up, trying not to wake her up, and then immediately went to the kitchen as he was starving.
He ate a full meal that he pulled from his [Spatial Inventory], feeling relieved.
Then… he immediately went back into thinking mode.
If his goal was truly to kill all of those shitty monsters, then he needed two things: information of their location and… strength to fight back.
He was level 70, and even though with [Domination] that probably translated roughly to level 200-250, he still needed much more.
The [Godless Demon] was probably above level 1000 after all, being able to beat the strongest of classifiers easily.
"Alright… just need to focus," he slapped his cheeks a few times to wake himself up.
But right at that moment…
Something unimaginable happened.
~DING~
[It is information that you want?]
[Then you will get your information!]
And suddenly, the ApostleDex opened again.
