Chapter 1374: Hanging On By a Thread
The Wanyun Association never let their guards down since the beginning. When Zhang Shun alerted them, they were already somewhat prepared for battle.
The Star Ships of the Twin Star Pirates that were traveling behind the Wanyun Association gained an advantage because of their positioning. They noticed the danger because of the Wanyun Association’s preparations, learning of the ambush in the asteroid belt. At the same time, they knew that they wouldn’t be the focus of the attackers as the Wanyun association’s fleet was far stronger.
Seeing as the situation wasn’t going great, the Twin Star Pirates turned to flee. They turned away from their original path and went back into the streams of chaotic space.
It wasn’t that the Twin Star Pirates weren\'t thinking straight. They had their Stargazer and their portable Star Observatory. They definitely could locate another path through the streams of chaotic space.
Of course, there was also a possibility that they had already discovered another path back, but Shang Xia didn’t really believe that was the case.
The Twin Star Pirates didn’t make a mistake. When they turned to flee, they avoided the ambush, leaving the Wanyun Association to fend for themselves.
The Wanyun Association didn’t think that their ally would move so decisively. They were instantly thrown into a situation where they had to face the ambush alone.
Of course, it wasn’t as though they weren’t prepared for it. Colorful light emerged from the 4 Star Ships and turned into fluffy clouds that covered them all.
Standing on the deck of the Capital Star Ship, Shang Xia was shocked when he saw how many Myriad Tinted Cloud Talismans they used.
“With this, all the Myriad Tinted Cloud Talismans you crafted for us have been used up.” The pale Gong Zhuo forced a chuckle as he stared in the same direction as Shan Xia.
Looking around, Shang Xia mumbled, “The defensive runes on the ships are damaged and you won’t be able to deploy the Talisman Formation. You won’t be able to last too long with just the Myriad Tinted Cloud Talisman.”
Gong Zhuo chuckled bitterly, “We’ll last as long as we can... We need all the time we can to recover.”
The Myriad Tinted Cloud Talisman was a combination talisman in the first place and had a lot of effects. With the Talisman Formation, they could withstand an attack from Seventh Order energy by using multiple talismans.
Losing the ability to activate the Talisman Formation, the Wanyun association wouldn’t be able to hold out for too long.
The speed at which they were traveling increased by 50 percent with the activation of the energy, and they would be able to maintain a quicker speed after the effects ended.
The effects of the talisman didn’t stop there. It had the ability to force anyone affected to be trapped in an illusion and the moment any expert barged into the area covered by the cloud, they would be a sitting duck for the attacks of the Wanyun Association.
Shang Xia noticed that all 4 Star Ships of the Wanyun Association were starting to gather together. Gong Zhuo smacked the body of the ship he was standing on and sighed, “True Immortal Shang, I’m afraid you will need to relocate to another ship. Even though this is our main ship and was built with a lot of effort from our Wanyun Association, we might not be able to protect it for long.”
Shang Xia could guess what Gong Zhuo wanted to do, but he still asked, “What do you plan to do with it?”
Gong Zhuo’s expression was solemn as he explained, “According to our plan, we will protect the Spirit Ark that carries the world fragment. We’ll leave this Star Ship behind to cover our retreat.”
As they spoke, he already passed the order for the cultivators of the Wanyun Association to move over to the other ships.
At the same time, Shang Xia could feel the Star Ship starting to gather more energy. Because they lost too much during the invasion, they were unable to build up their energy as quickly as before.
They were fortunate they had been preparing for the worst case the whole time. After shattering the world, they had been storing energy with the help of the other ships and quite a good amount had already built up.
Shang Xia fell silent for a moment before asking, “What do you need me to do?”
“Nothing much. I only need you to help me out when I retreat after dealing with them.” Gong Zhuo cupped his fists at Shang Xia and nodded gratefully.
The cultivators on the Capital Star Ship of the Wanyun Association had basically completed their retreat, and Shang Xia left for the Spirit Ark. As soon as he arrived, he noticed Zhang Shun who had been waiting for some time.
“Director Zhang, what are you looking at?” Shang Xia asked when he boarded the Spirit Ark, but he was only met with a slight nod. Zhang Shun turned to stare into the void behind him.
“The Essence Ling Heavenly Field didn’t send anyone to hunt down the Twin Star Pirates...” Zhang Shun mumbled softly.
After thinking for a moment, Shang Xia responded. “It’s probably because your Wanyun Association is too powerful.”
“True Immortal Shang, do you think there would be Beast Warriors in the streams of chaos? Do you think the Twin Star Pirates will be unfortunate enough to run into them?” Zhang Shun asked suddenly.
Feeling as though Zhang Shun was trying to say something, Shang Xia frowned. “Director Zhang, what do you mean?”
“Haha! It’s nothing much. Oh? Junior Brother Gong made his move. Let’s hope that we can scare them off so they don’t try anything stupid.” Zhang Shun laughed without answering Shang Xia’s question.
Turning to look behind him, Shang Xia saw Gong Zhuo driving the Star Ship straight at the reinforcements of the Essence Ling Heavenly Field.
Facing the lone charge of the Star Ship, the experts of the Essence Ling Heavenly Field naturally knew their intentions. They wouldn’t meet it head-on just for the fun of it.
Dozens of smaller Star Ships quickly split up to avoid the charge of the Wanyun Association’s Capital Star Ship before attacking it from all sides. They tried to take it down before it could cause any damage.
It was a shame the reinforcements hadn’t seen the Wanyun Association’s Capital Star Ship in action during the war previously. They might have pulled thousands of miles away by then, but they hadn’t escaped the range of the ship!
Since they retrieved the sharp point from the Spirit Dawn World with Shang Xia’s help, they reattached it and it burst forth with a terrifying might. 2 Star Ships burst into nothingness instantly.
No matter how hard they tried to defend themselves, even with the help of several True Immortals, they failed to stop the destruction of the Star Ships. Every single cultivator beneath the Martial Void Realm was killed.
The Martial Void Realm experts weren’t exactly spared either. The first didn’t manage to dodge in time and was heavily injured by the void fluctuations caused by the sharp point the Wanyun association shot out. The True Immortal on the second ship might have made some last second preparations, but he still suffered some injuries.
It was too bad they were no longer able to launch the sharp point with Seventh Order energy. Otherwise, everything in its way would have been destroyed.
As the power it contained dissipated, it continued to soar at a third Star Ship. The True Immortal on the third Star Ship ordered for the cultivators on it to evacuate, but he had his own plans.
Since the giant Star Ship was used to cover the escape of the others, he knew that the other side wouldn’t be able to retrieve it. That would mean that the sharp point that was shot out could be considered his spoils of war as long as he obtained it.
Even though both sides hadn’t actually fought, and the Star Ship he was on suffered some slight damage due to the remnant energy contained in the sharp point, he could tell that it was no ordinary object. Once he took it for himself, even if he lost all the cultivators on his Star Ship, he might still benefit from the exchange...
After the cultivators from his Star Ship retreated, he decided to retrieve it.
Taking the sharp point wasn’t supposed to be difficult. He quickly located it stuck in his ship and approached, but as soon as he arrived beside it, a cold chill ran through his heart.
Shit! It’s a trap!
The True Immortal released his domain instantly, but a chilly light emerged from the sharp point that was shot out, blinding him.
Gong Zhuo, who was hiding in the sharp point, emerged holding a dagger. The dagger was also a divine weapon, and he rushed into the domain of the True Immortal like a master assassin. Even though his strength was suppressed slightly, he was able to instakill the second tier True Immortal.
Urgh...
After killing his opponent, Gong Zhuo still spat out a mouthful of blood. He might have temporarily raised his combat strength to that of a third tier True Immortal, but he paid a huge price for it.
His aura deflated instantly after killing the True Immortal, and he looked a lot worse than when Shang Xia saw him earlier.
With the death of the True Immortal on the third Star Ship, along with the appearance of the aura of a foreign True Immortal, the experts of the Essence Ling Heavenly Field burst forth with extreme enthusiasm to kill the intruder.
In an instant, at least 4 True Immortals rushed at Gong Zhuo from different directions, and 1 of them was a high-level True Immortal!
Everyone could feel that the intruder was weak. It was the best opportunity to kill him!
Gong Zhuo, who lost almost all his combat capabilities, had his life hanging by a thread!
